On October 11, 2024, in celebration of the International Day of the Girl Child, Motherhood NG Initiative reached out to 150 school girls in Akure, Ondo State with an impactful outreach focused on menstrual hygiene education and empowerment.
Why this Outreach matters
The International Day of the Girl Child is a global call to action to highlight and address the unique challenges girls face. In Nigeria, 1 in 10 girls miss school during their menstrual cycle due to lack of access to sanitary pads (UNICEF, 2022). This not only affects their education but also their self-esteem and future opportunities.
At Motherhood NG Initiative, we believe that no girl should be held back because of her period. That is why our Teenage Well Project is dedicated to ending period poverty and promoting reproductive health education across schools and communities.

What We Did in Akure
During the outreach, we:
- Educated 150 school girls on menstrual hygiene and reproductive health.
- Distributed free sanitary pads to support them in managing their periods with dignity.
- Engaged the girls in interactive discussions to break myths, build confidence, and encourage them to stay in school.

Building a future for Girls
Our outreach in Akure reflects our commitment to reducing period poverty, teenage pregnancy, and maternal mortality by starting with education and empowerment at the grassroots level.
This was more than an event—it was a movement to remind every girl that she matters, her health matters, and her dreams matter.
