Motherhood NG Initiative marks Menstrual Hygiene Day 2024 with outreach in Ogun State

by | May 28, 2024 | Teenage Well Project

On International Menstrual Hygiene Day 2024, Motherhood NG Initiative proudly reached out to 180 schoolgirls at a community school in Joju, Sango Ota, Ogun State, with a life-changing program focused on menstrual education and free sanitary pads distribution.

Why Menstrual Hygiene Matters

Around the world, 1 in 10 girls miss school during their periods due to a lack of access to sanitary products or menstrual education (UNICEF). In Nigeria, thousands of young girls face this same challenge, often forcing them to miss classes, fall behind academically, or even drop out. Period poverty not only threatens education but also deepens gender inequality.

Our Impact in Joju Community School

Through this outreach, Motherhood NG Initiative:

  • Educated 180 girls on proper menstrual hygiene management to reduce stigma and promote confidence.
  • Distributed free sanitary pads, ensuring no girl misses school because of her period.
  • Created a safe and open environment for conversations about menstruation, helping to break long-standing cultural taboos.

Building a Future Without Period Poverty

At Motherhood NG Initiative, we believe menstruation should never be a barrier to education or dignity. This outreach is part of our wider mission to improve maternal and child health while empowering women and girls with the tools, education, and confidence they need.
