Three ways Project safe birth reduce maternal mortality :

According to WHO, Nigeria is the country where 20% of all global maternal deaths happen.
Between 2005 and 2015, there is an estimated maternal deaths of 600,000. The high number of maternal deaths in Nigeria reflects inequality in access to health services and highlights the gap between rural and urban communities.
Motherhood Nigeria Initiative launched Project safe birth to bridge that gap by providing rural women with life saving health information and free safe birth kits to enable them have an infection free delivery.
Content of the safe birth kit includes:
- 1 delivery mat
- 1 pair of elbow length glove
- 1 scalpel blade
- 1pack of maternity pads
- 1 bottle of disinfectant
- 1 bottle of methylated spirit
- 1 antiseptic soap
- 1 pack of cotton wool
- 2 cord clamps
- 2 mucous extractor
- 2 pairs of sterilized glove
- Gauze.
We also follow up with the these women with mobile message to encourage them to embrace family planning which is one of our key message during our outreach.
